About Dr. Hizon

 

Dr. Hizon is a primary care sports doctor who is board certified in Family Practice with a subspecialty (CAQ) in Sports Medicine through the American Board of Family Practice. He strives to deliver the finest medical services utilizing the latest technology has to offer. He attended the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine, with his residency at the University of California, Irvine. In 1986 he began practicing in the Temecula Valley. He co-founded the Ouch Sports Medical Center before leaving to start Motion Sports MD.

Besides private practice, he has been very active in community service especially as team physician for Temecula Valley High School for over 25 years. He was one of the team physicians for the San Diego Chargers of the NFL for over 14 years, president of the Riverside County Medical Association, and on the Board of Governors for the Temecula Valley Hospital. Dr. Hizon was involved with the opening of the new University of Riverside School of Medicine that opened in September, 2013. In 2009 he was awarded the Sports Medicine Champion for the San Diego Sports Medicine Foundation as the top sports doctor. Socially he encourages all to stay active, especially though cycling. His informal “Posh Peloton” has enabled many novice cyclists to start riding.


 

Itinerary

Day 1 - Palermo
Welcome to the enchanting island of Sicily, rich in warmth, history and art. A private driver – awaiting your arrival at Palermo Falcone-Borsellino Airport PMO – will accompany you to your evening's accommodations, choose between settling in or exploring about, followed by a celebratory dinner with Sicilian specialties. (D)

Day 2 - Palermo & Monreale
Prepare yourself for a guided sightseeing feast, filled with domes and cupolas of Gothic, Byzantine, and Baroque architecture - to name just a few. Then travel to the magnificent Monreale Cathedral, where marvelous 12th century mosaics await within. (B)

  • View the composite architectural styles of the Palermo Cathedral -Santa Rosalia

  • Enjoy the colorful Capo Market

  • Guided sightseeing tour with our local expert of Piazza Bellini, Teatro Massimo, Piazza Quattro Canti Square and the Fontana della Vergogna (Fountain of Shame)

  • Entrance to Monreale’s Cathedral, a true masterpiece of Norman art, most famous for its floor to ceiling Byzantine mosaics

Day 3 - Agrigento
Enjoy the beautiful, scenic drive to Marsala, originally founded as a Carthaginian colony but mostly known for its wine. Continue the journey to Agrigento and tour the magnificent Valley of the Temples with a local, private guide. Even travelers who have visited Athens and Delphi are awed by the miraculous Greek structures that have survived more than twenty-four centuries of history. (B)

  • Marsala wine tasting in one of its famous cantinas

  • Travel through the Salt Mills, the largest lagoon in Italy, home to the ancient tradition of sea-salt production

  • Private tour with a local expert to the Temples of Juno, Concorde and Hercules, some of the most well preserved Greek temples in the world

Day 4 - Ragusa
Now with the Mediterranean breeze at your back, travel to the ancient sites of Piazza Armerina on our way to The Late Baroque Towns of the Val di Noto. (B)

  • Visit “The Villa Romana Del Casale” in Piazza Armerina, one of the richest collections of Roman mosaics in the world dating back to the early 4th century AD

  • Continue your travel around the southeastern corner of Sicily to Ragusa

Day 5 - Ragusa & Modica
Guided sightseeing tour through Ragusa's oldest district, the IBLA, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with beautiful palaces and churches. Time on your own to further explore or maybe relax at an outdoor café! In the late afternoon, travel to nearby Modica with its steeply stacked medieval center and spectacular Baroque churches. Wander along Corso Umberto and stop at the famous Dolceria Bonajuto, Sicily's oldest chocolate factory, for a tasting. (B)

  • Guided sightseeing tour features a walk through the town’s oldest district called the Ibla

  • Walk through the Giardini Iblei, the pleasant public gardens of the 19th century

Day 6 - Siracusa & Ortigia
Birthplace of Archimedes. Enter the enchanting world of the archeological sites with a guided tour to appreciate their beauty. Time to explore the spectacular Old City, a maze of narrow streets lined with palaces, sprawling over the island of Ortigia. It was here that the famous geometrician Archimedes ran naked through the streets, exclaiming ‘Eureka!'. Enchanting Ortigia, mostly known for being the birthplace of the Goddess Artemis, twin sister of Apollo. (B)

  • Tour the Greek Theater with a local expert

  • The Garden of Paradise, The Ear of Dionysus

  • The Altar of Hieron II, and The Roman Amphitheater

  • Continue to the charming Taormina Riviera

Day 7 - Taormina & Cyclops Riviera
Awake in spectacular Taormina, a perfect blend of twisting medieval streets and a most enchanting, romantic air. Board a private boat, brush through the Mediterranean Sea and tour the fabled Riviera of the Cyclops, cradle of myths and ancient legends, under the Sicilian sun. (B,L)

  • Day excursion by private boat along the magical coastline of the Cyclops Riviera, named after Homer’s Odyssey 

Day 8 - Taormina
Pearl of the Mediterranean. Leisure morning to stroll, shop and enjoy the beauty of Taormina, home to an ancient Greek Theater, dating back to the 3rd century BC. (B,D)

  • Time to enjoy at your own pace this posh village, either by strolling through elegant shops and boutiques or tasting a classic Sicilian granita and brioche at a famous local café

  • Farewell dinner at a charming country villa, dating back to 1800’s, all women owned and operated on the outskirts of Taormina

Day 9 - Taormina - Catania
Time to pack your bag, enjoy your final espresso and… Arrivederci Sicily! (B)
